Rototuna Primary School bid a final farewell to a giggly, happy "shining light teacher" during a memorial service for Rebecca Martin yesterday.
Gucci HandbagsMore than 600 students and staff joined the family of Miss Martin, a year 4-5 teacher at the school killed with her sister, Petria, when a tsunami hit Samoa on September 30, for the special ceremony.
Miss Martin started at the school in February and taught Room 16 for three terms, before her death while holidaying in Samoa.
At the colourful, but moving, service, her former students shared memories of an ever-happy teacher, who had a love of art, shoes and the colour purple.
Lauren Blackburn remembered peering excitedly into her classroom on the first day of school this year and seeing a teacher with "brown wavy hair and a big smile".
Sophie Broadbent spoke of a teacher with a "sparkle Replica Ulysse Nardin Watch in her eye" and an infectious giggle.
"She had a high-pitched laugh when she had the giggles, which would make us giggle too.
"We will always remember you, Miss Martin."

School trustee Sue Turnbull took over Miss Martin's class for the final term this year and described her colleague's death as a huge loss for the school, and Rototuna community.
"When that tsunami swept Miss Martin away, (Rototuna Primary) lost a shining light teacher, a friend . . . and a colleague."
Principal Mike Sutton painted the picture of a rising young teacher, valued colleague and a friend to fellow staff members and students. Following the service, three Room 16 pupils planted a small forest pansy, with purple leaves - Miss Martin's favourite colour.
